ON QUEEN STREET MAP GUIDE Puts Downtown Businesses Back On The Map
NIAGARA FALLS – Queen Street and area businesses are getting a boost from a new project which celebrates its official launch.
ON QUEEN STREET is a brochure-style map guide of Queen Street and area businesses. The citizen-driven project was produced by two residents of Niagara Falls and supported by local businesses through advertising and sponsorship. More than 5000 copies will be distributed for the Summer season at various locations.
“There are so many great shops and activities on Queen Street now, and most people don’t even know it,” says Project Manager Christa Barette, who conceived of the idea inspired by her affection for Queen Street as a long-time resident and her familiarity with the tourism industry in Niagara.
“Each building, each business, each person has a story. Queen Street has had its challenges but there are so many incredible people and opportunities. Sometimes Queen Street seems to get overlooked, and we’re trying to change that. I’ve always wanted to help uplift Queen Street as a whole,” she says.
To create the new publication Barette turned to a Niagara Falls resident Sandor Ligetfalvy who is no stranger to graphic design on Queen Street as a provider of services to businesses in the area for many years. They met, as it happens, on Queen Street, nearly ten years ago. Now they are celebrating the success of their collaboration in promoting Queen Street area businesses.
“We’re putting Queen Street back on the map”, Barette says. She says that she hopes the project will help to fill a void in the downtown shopping district by providing what is currently the only up-to-date directory of businesses on Queen Street. The website and social media is still in a “work in progress”, but the project promises to use these platforms to promote local events, artists, business, and the Queen Street community as a whole.
“Feedback from the downtown community has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Barette. “We can’t wait to take everything we’ve learned and do it again. We are just getting started!”
More than 25 local businesses have supported the new project by advertising in the printed map guide. The project is proud to count Niagara Falls Innovation Hub, UPS Store 192, Keefer Management Inc, and 4680Q as its 2023 sponsors.
Advertisers in the map guide include: Antidote Apothecary, Artistic Impressions, Butterfly Gallery, Cat & Monkey Events, Grand Central Bar & Grill, Havana Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge, Hi-Lite Downtown Diner, Hook Me Up, Monfriese Rum Cakes, Moodie’s Bakery, NeoLITic Cannabis, No Tell Cocktail, Proper Hare Barbershop, Roberts Jewelers, Ronnie Don’s Ice Cream, RT Pizza, Snap E Bike Rental, Steve Wilson Studios & The Gallery, Taps Brewhouse, Third Space Café, and The White Whale.
