History

The City of Niagara Falls began long ago in the lands North of the train station. In 1853, the great western railway arrived and the suspension bridge to the USA was quickly built in 1855. The little village of Elgin turned into a bustling town very quickly. Other towns formed nearby and eventually they became what we know as the City of Niagara Falls.

This building was the first post office and customs house; built in 1885. It became the Police Station from 1952 until 1976. It was designated a historical building in 1978.
